Short Buffer slots are present in every module: a horizontal rectangle not connected to the critical path of components. Short Buffers are not required for a module to function, but they provide some protection from damage caused by charged nebulae. It is unknown if they also dampen gravitic (dichromatic) and electromagnetic (EMP) damage.
